Cambodia Gambling Halls
Tuesday, 16. July 2019
There is a fascinating background to the Cambodia gambling dens that lie just across the border from next door Thailand, in which gambling hall wagering is not permitted. Eight gambling dens are situated in a relatively tiny location in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia casinos is in a perfect spot, a 3 to 4 hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 largest betting locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very couple of Westerners. The astonishing income accrued from the casinos ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a number of limitations constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is required to be mainly Thai; although, funding sources are vague. The borders are formally open from 9:00 a.m. to 17:00, and even though visas are supposedly needed to cross, there are ways around this, as is true of many borders.
The initial Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving just a single casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary boat gambling hall, features one hundred and fifty slots and 60 tables. The Naga gambling den is open 24 hours with 42 tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, 4 tables of twenty-one, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The 1st casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly followed. There are one hundred and fifty slots and five table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slots and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred one armed bandits and seventy table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machines and 96 table games, including 87 baccarat chemin de fer (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slots and 66 of the familiar tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, again in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machines and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-inclusive resort and hotel compound that highlights many amenities aside from the casino, which contains 10,000 square feet of one hundred and thirty slot machines and eighty eight table games.
