Cambodia Gambling Halls
Saturday, 18. July 2020
There is an appealing background to the Cambodia casinos that reside just over the border from nearby Thailand, where casino gambling is not allowed. Eight gambling dens are established in a relatively small area in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling halls is in an excellent location, a three to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest betting centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a thriving business with Thai laborers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The phenomenal income gained from the gambling halls ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over 12.5 million, and there are a couple of controls requirements for casino ownership. Ownership is required to be largely Thai; although, investment sources are ambiguous. The borders are formally open from 9:00 a.m. to 1700, and despite the fact visas are for all intents and purposes necessary to cross, there are means around this, as is accurate of many border crossings.
The original Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving just one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary barge gambling den, features one hundred and fifty slot machine games and 60 tables. The Naga gambling den is open 24 hours with forty two tables of mini-baccarat, 4 tables of chemin de fer, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The first gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly opened. A total of one hundred and fifty slots and five tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machines and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 slots and seventy table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machines and ninety six table games, including 87 baccarat chemin de fer (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five one armed bandits and 66 of the normal table games, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, again in a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machines and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-inclusive resort and hotel compound that contains numerous comforts on top of the casino, which has ten thousand sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slot machines and 88 tables.
