There is a fascinating history to the Cambodia gambling halls that sit just over the border from next door Thailand, in which gambling hall gambling is banned. Eight gambling halls are based in a generally tiny location in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling halls is in an excellent area, a 3 to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular gambling locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The phenomenal capital accrued from the casinos ranges from $7.5 million to more than 12.5 million, and there are a couple of limitations constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is required to be mainly Thai; however, financing sources are ambiguous. The borders are formally open from 0900 to 1700, and although visas are apparently needed to cross, there are methods around this, as is correct of many borders.
The original Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in 1998, leaving only 1 gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary ship gambling hall, contains one hundred and fifty slot machines and 60 table games. The Naga gambling hall never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat, 4 tables of chemin de fer, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The initial casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown before long followed. There are 150 one armed bandits and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four one armed bandits and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred slots and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 one armed bandits and 96 gaming tables, including 87 baccarat (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machine games and sixty six of the normal tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, also a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machine games and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an international vacation and hotel building that contains many comforts accompanying the gambling den, which has ten thousand sq.ft. of 130 slots and eighty eight gaming tables.
